I met up with Aalok, a friend from university, in Huaraz, Peru who had flown out to join me for the remaining miles of South America. Aalok’s relative inexperience of cycling and camping meant that his total immersion into my rough, raw and cheap version of bicycle adventuring was a steep learning curve. However, the ways in which he approached the journey provided the perfect lens through which to view my own experiences and achievements by, and I was able to reflect upon the personal progression that I had made since setting off from the bottom of this continent seven months earlier.
